The Craftsy Indie Pattern Designer store is full of many great PDF patterns from designers all over the world. Not only can you find sewing patterns, but there’s also crocheting, knitting, paper crafts, and even more! I absolutely love it and I even have my own little store there. Finding great patterns takes a bit of browsing so I’ve done some of the hard work for you! Below I’ve found six great bag patterns FREE for you to download. You will need to create a Craftsy account if you haven’t got one already, but it’s super simple to do and then you will always know where your patterns will be when you’re ready to use them. I’ve also included a couple of great Craftsy video courses for bag making at the end of this post if you love learning through video!
6 FREE Bag Patterns from the Craftsy Indie Designer Store
1. Good-to-go Messenger Bag
The Good-to-go Messenger bag has been designed by Two Pretty Poppets. It’s a 27 page PDF with fantastic photo instructions. There are pattern pieces included in the PDF instructions. One of my favourites! Find it here.
2. The Martha Market Bag
The Martha Market Bag is made by IThinksew and comes as a 8 page PDF. There’s photo instructions and looks super easy to do. Perfect for the visual learners. You can find it here.
3. The Kennedy Bag
The Kennedy Bag Pattern is from the awesome bag pattern maker, Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness. If you’re into bag making at all, you may already be familiar with her patterns and bags. This bag pattern has very good photo instructions, but there are a few curves to deal with, which may be tricky for a newbie sewer. If you are new to sewing and up for learning a few new techniques then give this one a go! You can find it here.
4. Taylor Unisex Bag
The Taylor Unisex Bag is made by Huff’n Cuffs. It’s a 23 page PDF with a linked contents page to different parts of the pattern. Gotta love that kind of thoughtfulness in a PDF pattern! This pattern comes with computer drawn instructions for most of the steps. You can find it here.
5. Sunday ‘My Way’ Bag
The Sunday ‘My Way’ Bag is an RLR Creations pattern. It’s an 18 page PDF with computer drawn instructions. This would make a super cute hand bag. You can find it here.
6. Maddie Beach Bag
The Maddie Beach Bag is from Tuesday Nights Sewing. This bag pattern is an 8 page PDF and includes photo instructions. The bag includes piping so if that’s a technique you would like to try then this bag pattern is worth checking out. Find it here.
FREE Video Bag Making Class from Craftsy
Craftsy have this great free video class which shows you how to make simple totes and zippered pouches. There’s nothing better than video instructions (other than having someone showing you in person, of course!). Great step by step instructions by Kristen Link from Sew Mama Sew.
Another Great Bag Making Craftsy Class Especially for Beginning Sewers
Craftsy also offer another great video class especially for beginning sewers teaching you how to sew simple bags, which includes learning how to use fusible interfacing as well as sewing in a zipper. This is a paid class, but is often on sale for up to 50% off so definitely worth checking it out! There’s an overview for you to watch here so you can see exactly what you’re going to learn in the video class.
I hope you’ve seen a bag here that has inspired you. If anything, sign up to Craftsy and check out the many great sewing patterns in the Indie Designer FREE Sewing Pattern Craftsy Store and start adding patterns to your library.
I’ve had a ball putting this collection together. Still so many more great bag patterns to choose from!
Until next time, happy sewing,

Ooooh, I think I may have to give that messenger bag a go! Are you going to try to make a bag?
The Messenger Bag is my favourite, too! I’m currently designing my softie pattern for sew a softie day next month, which is taking all my spare time. Elyse gets to help with this one so we’re both loving it! The messenger bag will have to wait, but definitely on my list. I have some denim left over from some jeans I made that would be perfect for it! I actually want to go and make it, like now! Gah! Would love to see a pic of your bag if you have a go at one ?.
Would love this pattern but imposdible to open it with all these links:(
This is a great round up! I love it!
Glad you like it! They are all great looking bags and even better that they’re free! Thanks for stopping by ?
hi Domenica, great bags! Which ones are we allowed to make and sell?
Thank you,
Debbie
Hi Debbie. You’ll need to have a good look at the instructions as the creators usually state it on there. If not, a quick message to the creator would be the way to go. Craftsy have made it a bit easier to contact the designers now. Hopefully they get your message if you do.
Thanks for the info.
Debbie
