Here’s a quick video tutorial for how to put fabric into an embroidery hoop. This might be a fairly straight forward part of hand embroidery, but I remember not being quite sure about putting the fabric into the hoop when I first started, hence the video tutorial!
This tutorial is part of the Hand Embroidery for Beginners series. You can see my last tutorial showing you how to transfer an embroidery design onto fabric.
Let’s get straight into it!

Step 1
Loosen the outer ring of the embroidery hoop using the screw found at the top of the embroidery hoop.
Step 2
Place the smaller inner embroidery hoop under the fabric and have it laying on a flat surface. Centre the embroidery design over the ring.
Step 3
Gently push the outer ring down over the fabric and the inner ring. The fabric should be sandwiched nicely between the two rings now.
Step 4
Tighten the screw on the outer embroidery hoop until it’s tight enough to not slip off the fabric.

Step 5
Gently pull the fabric from the sides to increase the tension on the fabric (if desired).
Step 6
Tighten the screw completely and then your fabric is ready!
Even though this is a simple tutorial I didn’t want to leave it out and assume that everyone will know how to put fabric into an embroidery hoop.
